Ethnicity or national origins

Is an employer able to interview only applicants from a particular ethnicity or national background on the basis that a majority of customers are from that ethnicity or national background?

No, in most circumstances to interview only applicants from a particular ethnicity or national background because of the customers’ preferences will breach the Act. However, an employer can consider an applicant’s ethnic or national origins if the job is that of a counsellor on highly personal matters such as sexual matters or the prevention of violence.
