GLBT workshop

Ever wondered if sexual orientation is an issue in your workplace? Had any first hand experience in dealing with gender identity issues? Need to know more?

In today’s work environment sexual orientation and gender identity issues are inevitable. How your workplace deals with them is critical. The Human Rights Commission and the Ministry of Social Development are holding a workshop on sexual orientation issues that includes a firsthand account of gender transition in the workplace.

The workshop on 14 March will equip human resources practitioners with the tools and knowledge to address the challenges of sexual orientation issues with understanding, respect and professionalism. Topics include:
-  The realities of homophobia and transphobia in the workplace
-  Practical steps to manage discrimination and
-  Ways to improve workplace inclusiveness.
-  How to address the needs of trans people as outlined in the Human Rights Commission Transgender Inquiry Report released this year.

Workshop attendees will hear a state sector employee's first-hand account of transitioning from male to female in the workplace. The employer of this transgender employee will also share their experience and the critical lessons learnt. A report of the workshop will be in the next NEON newsletter.
