Kiwi example of gender auditing
Mon 7 Nov 2011Progress by the New Zealand Defence Force in addressing gender imbalance and working to achieve the acceptance of women at all levels has been acknowledged in a new international guide for police, armed forces and the justice sector.
The guide produced by the Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF) has produced a gender self assessment guide for the security sector. It uses New Zealand as a positive example of following up a gender integration audit conducted by the New Zealand Defence Force in 1988 after work by the New Zealand Human Rights Commission. It uses 16 dimensions of gender responsiven
ess and allows the police, the armed forces, and corrections facilities among others to asses themselves.
