Supriya Rathod’s CV Experience

Indian-born Supriya Rathod is proud of her name. It’s part of her identity and history, and she sees no need to change it. But she is also aware that having an obviously non-European name does make it much harder to get jobs. Despite being highly qualified and experienced in communications, many times after she has sent in her CV to apply for a job Supriya has received a rejection letter saying, in a variety of different ways, that she is not what the employer is looking for.

“When I am told that I don’t meet their criteria and I know from the job description that I have the necessary skills and experience, I can’t help but think that my ethnicity must be a factor.”

Supriya has found her own way around any discrimination by meeting people face to face where possible rather than sending in a CV.   “You have to find a way to move beyond your name”, she says.
